Proofreading

Proofreading

As a proofreader, I review documents prior to publication to ensure they are complete, laid out correctly and contain no formal mistakes.

My special strengths

Eye for detail

Eye for detail

My keen eye is trained to pick up errors such as incorrect spelling, punctuation, grammar and style. These are aspects of a text that can easily escape the attention of an author more concerned with content.
The big picture

Wider perspective

I also look at a document from a broader perspective to ensure that nothing is missing, that styles have been properly applied, and that chapters and headings are arranged in the correct order and match the table of contents.
Retentive memory

Retentive memory

A good memory of how words are used in a document enables inconsistencies to be spotted and corrected. Consistent use of language, names, abbreviations, capitalisation, hyphenation and styles gives refinement and authority to a text.
Meticulous approach

Meticulous approach

Even the most well-prepared document can contain imperfections, be they linguistic, stylistic or substantive. Through a close, systematic review, my aim is to root out such flaws and inaccuracies.

What?

I handle documents of all kinds and sizes, from entire books to brochures and flyers. I also proofread English translations against French source documents.

How?

I adapt my method to your needs and the form in which the document is available. I proofread both on screen and on paper, both blind and against the original manuscript. Corrections can be made using standard proofreading symbols, track changes or comments.

How much?

The price will be determined on a per-word or per-hour basis. The applicable rate will be set after I have seen at least an extract from the document. To obtain an estimate, please feel free to contact me using the form below.
